And you don’t need to wait for the peak summer months to visit, because the weather is great this time of year. Although the weather is slightly cooler in January, February, and March, the average day time temperature in winter is 78 degrees. Rain falls on average about 8 days a month during the winter months, but often rain showers only last a few minutes and are only in one part of the island. The wettest month on Oahu is typically in December, with 10 days of rain. During the winter months you can still find plenty of outdoor activities and you can avoid the crowds.
Or if you just need an escape from the winter blues, plan a trip to sunny, warm Oahu.
Here are just a few of the many activities taking place this winter on Oahu:
See some of the best big wave surfing in the world
Big wave season on the North Shore at Waimea Bay is between November and March. Waves can swell to 35 to 50 feet (some even get up to 100 feet) in size and many of the best surfers in the world come to be a part of it.
Watch migrating humpback whales
Peak whale watching months are January, February, and March. At the end of each summer, humpback whales leave their feeding grounds in Alaska and travel to Hawaii to mate, give birth and nurse their young. Hawaii is the only place in the United States where Humpback whales reproduce.
